I’m Ludmilla Louissaint. I was born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, which shares the island with the Dominican Republic –this is where I’ve lived for more than 15 years. The Dominican Republic is well-known for its tourist attractions including San Souci Palace, Citadelle Laferriere, Labadee Beach, Fort Jacques, Candras Beach, Bassin Bleu and many others. It is also known for its rich (and delicious!) cuisine.
I knew that I’d be a doctor from the age of eight. I went to my paediatrician – who treated me more like a daughter than a patient, and this is where I discovered my love of medicine.
As a recently graduated doctor, I made the decision that I wanted to move to the UK because I’ll have so many more opportunities to improve my knowledge and skillset there. I’m looking forward to accessing the high-quality technologies in the UK medicine market, particularly in the field on psychiatry, which is my specialty.

I anticipate that the biggest challenge in adjusting to UK life will be the climate, and the language. However, I have a positive mindset and so I know I’ll rise to these challenges and embrace my new life.
I’m not sure when I will be able to make the move to the UK, but I’m diligently preparing for the big move and the exciting next step in my life and career.
